Blog Of The Month - Problogger

The blog of the month for March goes to Problogger. Darren Rowse is the mastermind behind the blog, he teaches his readers the value of what a true "problogger" has to accomplish with his time in order to get the success he or she wants. He offers a problogger forum, a book and an ebook available for purchase, I've read his book and would recomend it to all. Darren's story is an inspiration to all bloggers no matter their position in the blogging world.

Problogger
Every blogger wants to get as much traffic as possible to their blog, even if your not blogging for money you still want to get as many people as possible to read your blog posts. The best way to get this is through SEO work, building links and your internet presence, but do you really want to be doing this the rest of your blogging career? If no, which I hope you chose, then you need to start an email subcription.

With an email subscription you can start to build your own community within your blog. You'll be able to let people know when you make a blog post, send them special offers, and anything else you want them to see or read. If you build up your subscribers enough it means that you can do less SEO work because with one email you can automatically get thousands of people, who trust your blog and ideas, to visit your blog on a daily or weekly basis, depending on how often you want them to. However there is such a thing as spam out there and if you send your readers stuff too often or send them stuff that is of no use they will unsubscribe and you'll lose readers.

The Best Company For the Job

The email subscription out there is called Aweber. It has many features that you can use to manage your subscribers including.
  • sending email newsletters
  • publishing sign up forms to your website
  • creating autoresponders
  • managing unlimited email campaigns for unlimited sites
  • sending your RSS feed as a blog newsletter
  • great email delivery
  • free customer support
These tools will let you establish a good relationship with your readers and will add a whole new aspect to getting traffic to your blog. Check them out here.

Feedburner

There is an alternative to Aweber, its not the greatest way to manage your subscribers but it helps if you can't afford to pay for it. It's called Feedburner and it sends people who sign up to your email subscription your RSS feed to their email. So when you post something on your blog it sends them an update with the post in the email. The thing I don't like about Feedburner is that it is very limited, which is usually the case with free programs, it doesn't allow you to manually send people messages, so for example you couldn't tell people about the new ebook you just wrote or the reason you won't be updating your blog this week.

Getting People to Sign Up

Sometimes it can be hard to get people to sign up for your email subscription or newsletter, but a good strategy I have seen, because I have fallen for it before, is to give something away for free when people sign up. Make it so that if they want, for example your free ebook on home renovation, then they have to sign up for your email subscription if they want this (this is a feature Aweber can provide). You could also offer them something extra like if they sign up they will get extra content not on your blog.

The bottom line is that if you want to get guaranteed traffic to your blog without having to be constantly building links everyday then you need to get an email subscription on your blog immediately. Start building your community and good relationships with your readers now!
